Voice-Set
Production Services: VFI's unique facility has the capacity to produce
over 200 voice database sets (voice-sets) per year The production of a
voice-set calls for the precise, phase linear, reverberation-free recording of
a specially-trained performers articulating custom-scripted words and
syllables to capture a full set of context-sensitive speech units (phonemes,
diphones, and triphones) for a given language and dialect.
VFI provides a comprehensive service for the production of voice-sets,
including casting of talent and contract administration, training, preparing
custom scripts and domain-specific manuals, and database management of
voice-sets. After a procedure called tagging, a voice-set is converted to a
voice-font, which is operated on by a voice synthesizer in real-time. The
process is called concatenative synthesis, which is distinguished from the
more elementary production of a pre-recorded prompt (PRP). VFI also operates
world-class recording studios for the production of PRPs using the same
performers under contract for TTS applications, thereby assuring seamless
results and consistency in voicing for combined TTS/PRP applications.
